The aim of the clubs associated to Nimra is to foster the growth of mower racing in NZ with the freedom to build and race a racing mower, while it still retains the appearance of a ride- on lawn mower with the cutting deck removed.
Nimra is the figure head of a group of lawn mower racing clubs in NZ who govern themselves, and the Nimra Association has no overall governing power of those participating clubs.
Basic outline of the group guideline’s is as follows:
- Third party Insurance is available for participating clubs on a shared basis.
- We allow full “chassis “builds with mower panels added but it must use ride-on mower body panels where practical to retain the look of a ride-on lawn mower.
- No greensheeting or chassis tag identification required, suitable safety check will be carried on a race day.
- Our clubs welcome the FX and other brand builds as part of our mower racing community.
- In all classes you are free to extend the front and/or rear wheel track to an overall width of 1100mm (for safety and stability reasons) as long as the mower retains the look of a ride on lawn mower.
- There are no costs involved with the Nimra group as your club governs its self
-There is very little difference in the building requirements between the NIMRA group and other organisation also racing mowers. We do recommend you build your mower “body and Chassis frame” to the 1mitre rules thus giving flexibility to participate in outside events but with the ability to widen wheel track for Nimra events

Our affiliated clubs are the backbone of the sport. Each club brings its own character while sharing the same passion for racing and having a good time.

Our lawnmower racing association was established to grow and support grassroots lawnmower racing in New Zealand. We work with affiliated clubs across the North Island to organise race meetings, develop rules, and encourage new competitors to join the sport. By keeping costs low, we continue to promote one of the cheapest forms of motorsport in New Zealand while creating a welcoming environment for racers of all ages.
